Deputy Prime-Minister of Lao PDR, Foreign Minister Thonlung Sisulit paid an official visit to Moscow on June 25-27,2007.

In the course of the visit Mr. Sisulit met Chief of the RF Government Staff, Deputy Chairman of the Government S. Naryshkin. During the meeting the parties discussed perspectives of the trade-and-economic cooperation between Russia and Laos.

International policy problems affecting interest of the both parties were touched upon during the meeting of Mr. Sisulit with the Foreign Minister of the RF S. Lavrov.

Being the Cheirman of the Laotian part of the Russian-Laotian Intergovernmental Commission Mr. Sisulit met his Russian colleague Head of the Rossport V. Fetisov. They discussed the progress of the implementation of the Protocol of the 6th Meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission and outlined steps for further development of trade-and-economic, scientific and cultural relations.

Mr. Sisulit was elected full member of the Russian Academy of Social Sciences (RASS). When at the RASS Mr. Sisulit was given over the RASS diploma.

At the state reception held at the Russian Peace Fund (RPF) and organized by the RPF and Russian-Laotian Friendship Society the distinguished guest was welcomed by Coordinator of the State Duma Deputy Group for relations with the Lao Parliament Yu. Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the RPF Board, First Deputy Chairman of the Russian-Laotian Friendship Society Board, prof. I. Panfilov, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the RF to Laos V. Plotnikov, Deputy Chairman of the Russian-Laotian Friendship Society Board V. Ratkin. The reception was also attended by the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Lao PDR to the RF Thonrsavan Fomvikhan, Deputy Chairman of the Moscow Regional Committee of War Veterans, General-Major A. Gaponenko, academician of the Russian Academy of Social Sciences A> Strygin, member of the Board of the Russian-Laotian Friendship Society, Director General of MK-SP N. Ustinov. The reception was held in a friendly and cordial atmosphere. The parties noted the successful development of the Russian-Laotian relations and voiced a hope for their further strengthening.
