19th October 2004

On October 19, 2004, a grand reception to commemorate the 40th Ann. of issuing the first postage stamp under the "Space mail" program and inclusion of the information on "space program" into the Russian Book of Records "Levsha" (Russian analogue of the Guinness Book of Records) was given in Moscow.

Experiments with space mail began in the sixties of the 20th century. The first letter addressed to cosmonaut Shatalov was sent to board "Soyuz-4" space ship by his relatives. Later on, letters addressed to cosmonauts were delivered to the orbit by "Soyuz" space ships regularly. The person to take the lead in organizing the first space mail was Mr. Igor D. Panfilov - Chairman of Board of Directors of MK Group of Companies, the first Russian member of ASCAT, the International Association of Publishers of Philatelic Catalogues - a kind of LIONS club of collectors.

The grand reception was attended by the representatives of GOZNAK Association being MK's partners in implementing the "Space mail" program and by the representatives of Moscow Government.
